Adam Frisch is wrapping up his second and final four-year term as a member of the Aspen City Council. He was Mayor Pro-Tem from 2013-2016. Adam was re-elected by a wide margin to his second term as a member of the Aspen City Council in May of 2015. He was first elected to the City Council in May of 2011. Adam is the Vice Chair & the City of Aspen’s elected representative on the Board of Trustees for CORE — Community Office for Resource Efficiency (http://aspencore.org/), a nonprofit organization that promotes renewable energy, energy efficiency and green building in western Colorado and beyond. From 2009 through 2016, Adam served on and led Aspen’s Housing Frontiers Group, which focuses on finding solutions to strategic issues facing Aspen’s affordable housing program.
Adam also represents the City on the Aspen-Snowmass Nordic Council, where he works to protect and enhance our world class 60km+ of free Nordic trail system. Since moving to Aspen in 2003, Adam has been very involved in the local community. From 2005 until 2011, he chaired the Financial Advisory Board for Pitkin County. He also served on a committee that worked on a public/private partnership for potential affordable housing rental projects. Early in his Council term, he served on a working group to find a more stable funding source for our community’s health and human services agencies via a working group made up of City & County senior staff, elected officials, and leaders of our non-profit community.
Adam understands the challenges of running a small business. He founded PBI Concierge, a provider of high-end, in-home elder care and concierge services as well as a co-founder of Cruise Inn RV Parks & Resorts, focused in the Rocky Mountain States that is modeled after the hotel industry.
Before moving to Aspen, Adam worked in the global emerging markets foreign exchange derivative business. Based in New York, he spent extensive time overseas, conducting business in more than 55 countries on six continents. Prior to his foreign exchange markets experience, Adam worked at one of the first socially responsible investment funds in the country.
Adam and his wife, Katy, who is also active in the Aspen community (currently Board member of KAJX & Roaring Fork Youth Orchestra; former President of the Board of AVSC), have two children at Aspen Middle School; Felix is in 8th grade, and Quintessa is in 6th. Adam competes in a variety of athletic events: alpine, nordic and randonee skiing (including the Elk Mountain Grand Traverse and Power of Four), long distance trail running. He is proud of summiting mountains in South America and Africa. Since 2010, he has been a product tester for Pearl Izumi.
Committed to community service, Adam has been a member of many local non-profit boards, including serving as president of the Aspen Youth Experience (now part of the Buddy Program). Adam is also a graduate of Roaring Fork Leadership. Born on an Indian reservation in northeastern Montana, Adam received his undergraduate degree in economics, with emphases in political science and art history, from the University of Colorado-Boulder, where he was a leader in the student government.
Married 15 Years to Katy Frisch
Katy grew up ski racing outside of Syracuse, NY, and continued to race in college. She received a degree from Brown University in Electrical Engineering and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
She has worked in strategy consulting, manufacturing and mergers and acquisitions, all for technology companies, in a variety of locations. Katy currently is the President of Arcom Labs, based in Syracuse, NY. She is a member of YPO-Aspen.
Katy is the former President of the board of the Aspen Valley Ski & Snowboard Club (AVSC), and founder of the Ajax Cup, AVSC’s major fundraiser. Since 2018, she has been a member of the Board of Directors of KAJX, Aspen local NPR station as well as a Board Member of the Roaring Fork Youth Orchestra. She is also a member of the Aspen School District’s Financial Advisory Board. She is a former member of the board of The Wildwood School. She has lived in Colorado for the last 20 years.
Two Children Born at Aspen Valley Hospital
Felix (8th grade) and Quintessa (6th Grade) are both enjoying their time at Aspen Middle School. He is active with all things theater (Aspen School Productions, Theatre Aspen, Aspen Community Theater) and music, loves hiking Highlands Bowl, and the trails in Aspen with the family dog, Padme. Quintessa is an avid AVSC alpine ski racer, and competes year around with the Aspen Skating Club. They are both proud graduates of Wildwood (still Adam’s favorite place in Aspen). They love camping around Aspen, Moab and Fruita.
Both of Adam’s parents grew up in Northern Minnesota, Mom in Duluth and Dad in Virginia, the center of the ‘Iron Range,’ a mining community. They were both the first people in their family to attend college. Adam’s Dad is a physician and his Mom is an attorney with a focus on mediation and a community activist. Adam has three younger sisters.
